This land was quiet, stuck between peace and mourning. But besides that, its silence was deafning, it was all she could think about. It seemed that not even the soft, and intentionally quiet footfalls made an impact in this silence. How right it was that the air was cold upon her coat, the very atmosphere told her to turn back now, to leave while she still could. But it was too late now, she needed to go, needed to carry on. The atmosphere had it wrong, it did not need to be forboding, for she was not here to do what so many before her had done. For as they had come to end their lives, she had come to mourn for them. For those that had gone before her, her mother, her father, even Thor. Though his life may still be lived, all she knew was that it was not here, not with her.
How long had she been here for? The journey itself was a test, of stamina; of hope; of everything that opposed the bleakness of what she had come here to face. She'd fought the despair that had so often threatened to consume her, she had continued walking even when it felt as though her knees were being hacked out from beneath her. Oh yes, she'd always been a fighter, for what she knew was right, what she knew had to be done. But now it was time, to hand herself over to the despar, to let herself feel the deep and desperate pain that she'd prevented from cutting her open. But there was still some cowardice in her body, after she'd lost everything, she'd been left with no home and had all she loved stripped from her. There was still cowardice, she would not make that jump, she would not feel that moment of suspencion while the air tested her weight, waiting to feel whether she would be supported or not. And then that adrenaline rush as she plumeted to the sodden earth, the air finally realising it could not hold her.
No.
She could not do that.
Of life, why must you be so cruel? Oh life, why must you create such a coward of me? For she was a coward, she'd heard about her fathers death, and of her mothers soon after. But she'd not gone where she should. She had not come here when she should. Fear had prevented that from happening. Instead she had locked herself away, to deal with the lonliness, to be consumed by it. How right it had felt at the time, and yet looking back now, it is only guilt that fills her heavy heart. Only the damning realisation that she has done wrong, acted selfishly. And now she would let herself suffer whatever consequences that would arise because of that.
Eyes were wide open as she looked upon the cliff top. Imagining what it must have been like for them to come here, alone as she was. Yet they were loved, they had been at the time they chose their deaths. She had nobody, perhaps that was why the atmosphere was so forboding, so suffocating. It knew, as she did not that it would be easy to step off that cliff. For nobody would miss her, there would be nobody to mourn her passing. Locket had always been secretive, opening up for nobody. And so nobody would save her if she chose to do it. But there was something that this land overlooked. Cowardice. As i said before, she would never plumet to her ending from this cliff, for to do so she would have to take that first step. And it was that step which terrified her the most.
Devistatingly she sank to her knees, the perfect movement for such a time. The despair hit her, a great blow in her stomach, ripping the air from her body, forcing her heart to pound heavily against her chest. Perfect. It was just what she wanted, to suffer the pain she had so foolishly sought to avoid, it was no more than she deserved. Her head was bowed in submission, her eyes were closed, if opened you would see the despair written plainly across them. Her breathing was shallow, dry sobs emitting from her slightly parted lips, there was no laughter. No childish happiness, it was all forgotten. In the memory of those who had left her behind. And of those who would do so. How many must she lose. Silently she ran it over in her head. All those who had dissapeared before her.
Kamik; he had gone missing, she still did not know of his whereabouts. Eagle; had died after long life, her dear dear father. Sugar; died not long after Eagle did, secretly Locket believes it was the despair that killed her, but who was she to know? Thor; her beloved Thor, had dissapeared long before Eagle's death, where he was now? Only he knew.
In the lonliness of this valley she mourned for all those she had loved and lost. Letting the despair finally take her. Though she would eventually live through it. Locket was too much of a coward to throw herself from the cliff.

Thor
The onyx stallion had returned to the lands he had resided in for a short time some time ago. He'd left, not even saying good-bye, even though he only had one to say good-bye to. He'd felt his actions were wrong for a stallion of his alliance. He'd gone to start a new life, yet realized that the one meeting he'd had with a fae had changed his entire life. And he was having a hard time adjusting. He was supposed to be a damn dark lord for cryin' out loud! And yet, when he'd met the fae, love had been introduced to him, something many darks went without. While living here he had retained his darkness with all others except for the fae. But at his new realms it was different, his personality was dark and black, but he had felt depressed, empty, and tired the whole time.
He'd never felt that way before in his entire life, and he didn't like it. So it had taken him two months to figure it out, but he'd eventually decided to return to HV, to see if he 'returned' to normal in the lands that he'd last been normal in. He'd thought of Locket a lot, but had often tried to push her out of his mind, for she was, in a way, an angel and he was the devil. Angels and devils don't mix, it just doesn't work that way. So he'd accepted it was part of the past, that he needed to move on and...forget her. But he never had. Thor'd thought it unfortunate at the time that he remembered her, but he knew that she would always have an effect on his life.
Thor entered the lands, HV, the lands he'd been traveling to. What was he looking for here? A home, a herd in lands familar to him? Was it simply an expirament? Or was he looking for Locket? He wasn't sure himself. The brute shook his cranium, frowning in distaste. Oh how he hated himself right then. He was turning into a damn lover, a light one. That made him upset, that was something he would never become, for he felt that meant he was not strong enough or brave enough to resist love's temptation. Oh damn, what the hell was he thinking? Damn it. Ugh. Life was too confusing. Just end it now and get it over with.
Speaking of death, he was in deathland at the moment. The deathland other than the claiming lands where lights sold their souls, leading to death by cowardness. He grumbled to himself and shook his cranium, eavesdroppers pulled back. The more he thought about where he was and less about his past the grumpier he got. Suddenly a familar scent hit his nares. He followed it, not knowing why. It just felt right, like something he had to do or he would be curious for the rest of his life.
Then he knew why. He knew why he'd followed that scent and why he'd come back. But why why why??? Why couldn't he just stay who he'd been before?? Ugh!!! He struck at the earth furiously, attempting to release some of his anger and frustration. No good, the lithosphere decided not to help and simply annoyed him further. He'd known why the moment he saw the silhouette of a fae on the horizon. He knew who she was. It was Locket. But damn it, why? Would he never stop asking himself that? He did not understand this damn world, this resulted in frustration, which led to anger. Anger good, anger bad? Who knows? Who cares? He did, it matters, mattered. Damn. He struck out at the ground once more, muttering to himself. He took a deep breath, looked back over to the silhouette, but stood still, saying nothing. Just standing.

She was begginning to see things. That wasn't good, when she came here, she hadn't expected the greif to put her on the edge of insanity. To make her see hallucinations. She should stop now, pull that despair back inside her and fight with it as she had before, but no matter how she tried she could not control it. She saw Eagle, standing before her, that look of perfect fatherly annoyance and love upon his face, she saw that smile directed at her. The one she knew so well. It was given to her when she had done something wrong, and yet he could not scold her for it. Her father stood before her now, and she raised her head, her eyes foccused where his would be. The empty air before her, providing what she needed. But it hurt to see his face, by god did it hurt. Perhaps this was the dead's way of assisting her through her pain, giving her what they thought she wanted. Images of those she longed to see again. Was it helping? She could not tell.
Eagle dissapeared as swiftly as he had came, his shape had transformed, becoming lighter and smaller, in his place stood Sugar. The warmth of her smile was overpowering, the worry in her eyes, words were mouthed, but no sound came from her velvet lips. The dead had no voice, but Locket's memories were enough. She imagined the sweetness of that voice, it was the sound of comfort. Of love. And it struck a new blow in her heart. Death was something she would never understand, it was so perilous, so inevitable. Perhaps thats why it hurt so much, no matter how prepared for it we were, it always caught us by suprise. Whether Death welcomed up with open arms and a warm smile, or whether He dragged us kicking and screaming away. He would find us in the end.
The silence was overpowering, something needed to break it. She wanted to scream, just to prove this land had not muted all aspects of sound. Yet she could not find her voice, all she could see were images of her past, haunting her. It was the despair. She told herself, yet it made nothing easier to bare. This pain, was what she had come here for. And yet now she wished she had lived in forgetting, her heart was ripped from her chest. Almost, Locket almost could invision it beating upon the cool grey earth, the pulse of it filled her eardrums. Drowning everything out, was it better than the silence? No, anythign was better than this.
More hallucinations.
But this time of Him.
Did that mean he was dead? In her head it made sense, for she was in the dying lands. She had dreamed of those dead, and now a dream of him here. It must mean it. And as this thought crushed her, despair found her again. Plucking at her mane and tail, taunting her self control. And as she lay upon the ground. Her eyes fixed upon the from of Thor, who seemed so real to her. And yet, he could not be here, he had left. It seemed only right, he had been dark, and she by heritage a light. Yet by alliance she was more a neutral. But though it was right, that did not make it hurt any less. Her eyes fell to the ground once more, deep brown optics fll of pain and despair. The inevitable, answer-less question slipped from her lips. Barely audible, and yet in this land. Even the whispers of the dead could be heard.
"Why?"

Thor
The brute stood still, a grumpy frown upon his maw, eavesdroppers pulled back. His body trembled with frustration and anger, wanting to be released. He held back these feelings to the best of his ability. Eavesdroppers flicked about simply to catch the words of Locket, or rather, the word. 'Why?' Thor snorted and tossed his onyx cranium, muttering to himself. Then he spoke, clearly and loud enough for her to hear, his voice of a grumpy old man who'd been woken from a peaceful sleep in the middle of the night.
"Well now, Isn't that the common question."
It wasn't a question, it was a statement. He wasn't asking if it was the common question, he was saying it was the common question. He'd been ripping himself apart wondering why, she'd been wondering why as well. Why why why why why why why???? Nobody knew, nobody knows, nobody would know, especially not Thor. He pawed listlessly at the lithosphere, moving the soft, lifeless dirt about. He frowned again and shook his cranium, ropes swinging about. Oh how he wanted to scream or fight, or do anything to release his dark anger and frustration. But nothing would or could help him now. He groaned in subtle agony, not from pain, but from the knowledge of who he was and who he had been.
He opened his maw to speak, wanting to speak to Locket, but knowing that he would scream and yell at her, he closed it again. He didn't need this, or any guilt on top of all his current problems. But he knew she had problems of her own as well, and that this was one of them. This was a problem for him too, but in a different manner. Thor didn't know what to do. For two months he'd thought of her, only to return home and find his feelings for her completely different than what he had remembered. Wether he didn't remember right or if his feelings had changed he didn't know.

Many emotions passed through her head, for though she blinked, though her mind thought of other things. She could not conjure the image of him away, he was there, stuck in her mind a thousand times more beautiful than he should be. Her eyes slowly shut, clamped tight in their sockets, had she hands she would have rolled her fingers at her temples, attempting in a vain hope to destroy the images of Thor from her mind. Though i a way she cursed herself for that, for to destroy beauty? It was like destroying the world. So little was beautiful in this world, it felt like a sin to destroy any of it, but then opinions on beauty varried to the different equines, perhaps the whole world was beautiful in some way shape or form, perhaps she simply could not see it.
As quickly as they had shut her eyes snapped open, finding Thor who was still there. He replied to her words, did that mean .. he was real? He was not an image from her mind? Her eyes followed him, his words ... they were bitter in a way she had only heard them when they first met, she should have guessed what it meant. But she could think of nothing. Only that he was here.
"Thor."
It was not a question, she was not questioning whether he was there or not. For that was obvious. It was the words of someone who was acknowledging something that was found. Her tone was sweet, though this was the natural way, there was a hint of confusion mixed up in it all. Locket pulled her golden body to its feet, her eyes never leaving his own body. Lest the image should shatter. Yet something forbade her from walking to him, perhaps it was the tone to his words, or that look of anger in his eyes, but she could not force herself to walk over to him. There was hesitation in her body, a tension in the muscles that she could not control. Her body filled with adrenalin.
Adrenalin?
But Thor was no danger to her ...
Unless, but things could not have changed so quickly? Sure, it had been two angonizing months, but how could he change so quickly. She'd held on, was that not possible for him also? Unless, he may have moved on, yet felt he owed her at least something. Perhaps he was here not by chance, but because he'd smelt her in the deathlands, and by whatever force he thought he owed her, wanted to stop her dying. Then he'd go, to whatever mare served as her replacement.
But he was wrong, Locket had no intention for suicide.
Subtly she shook her head, thoughts removing themselves. She musn't think. He was here wasn't he? That was all that counted. Wasn't it?

Thor
Thor stood still, watching as the golden fae pulled herself to her feet, but avoided meeting direct contact with her own eyes. His eyes swept over her body and as he stood there the memory of their first meeting came back to him. He closed his eyes, trying to remember every detail, trying to decide what to do. He sighed, it was at that time he'd had no place to go, at first he'd pushed her away, then gave into his feelings for her. It jolted him back to the present, that was what he was doing now. Wasn't it? He wasn't sure, but didn't doubt it. He stared at Locket for a few long minutes and didn't move. Finally a tear trickled down his face.
He took a deep breath, but another droplet of water jumped from his optics. It had been a long time since he'd cried, actually, had he ever cried? No, he didn't think he'd ever cried before. And here he was, crying like a little baby. And before he'd wanted to throw a temper tantrum, like a little baby. What was he? A little baby? Anger flared through him for a brief moment, but he felt too weak to keep it alive. Thor closed his eyes and did his best to breathe deeply, but this only threatened him more. His normally extremely sturdy legs wobbled slightly, threatening to collapse.
Finally Thor exploded. He could take no more, the not-knowing what to do, the crying, the anger, the weakness, he could hold nothing more. The weakness had been the last straw, the last burden he could hold. With a tear still running down his face his eavesdroppers flew to the top of his skull, plastering themselves flat. His body trembled, still upset, He glared at the ground before him, then his cranium snapped around to bit at an itchy area of skin. Whipcord slashed furiously about at the pesky flies. Titaniums dug deeply into the loose soil, then he spun about and leaped forwards in the opposite direction, forcing himself to run from Locket so he wouldn't hurt her. Then he dissapeared from view for a few moments whilst he was letting out his anger.
After a few minutes he staggered back to where Locket stood, but did not venture close. His breath was shaky and limbs felt like jelly. His anger had been his energy, without it he felt weak. Finally he could stand no more and he collapsed, now feeling completely like a baby, but could do nothing about it. The tears came, and this time he let them fall rapidly. Thor lay awkwardly on his crumpled legs, but as he sobbed he put his head down upon his legs, feeling too weak to even hold it up. He swallowed hard and took a deep, shaky breath.
Finally he raised his cranium once more and his eyes landed upon Locket. For a few moments he did not even seem to breathe, all was silent, no tears fell either as he stared at Locket. He did not know why he was having such a hard time, nor why he was asking all these questions, nor why he was so concerned with why. It was life, do what feels right. You only have a few chances at love in your life, when you find one, grab it and don't let go. He had a hard time accepting love as he was used to life as a shadowkin, this was entering a whole new world. Seeing new things, being part of new things, and now having to do things differently. Thor swallowed again and then closed his eyes. But he knew which way to go and what to do. He had to accept that he still loved Locket, and not run from that fact and not be afraid of it. He had to love her for all it's worth and just go with the flow with whatever came.

She watched him, there was still a reluctance to close that gap between them, though part of her longed for only that. To feel his skin once again, close to hers. She lusted for it, but knew at the same time ... he was not the same. There was something changed, yet for all her trying she could not decide what it was. He wouldn't meet her gaze. It was the first thing she realised, though she wanted to meet his eyes, he did not look up. It would have been so easy, even so much as a fleeting glance. Yet no, he did not even offer her so much as that. Did not even given her that heartbeat that would make her life worth living.
Anger claimed her, yet it could not be held for long. She wanted to be angry at him, she needed to be. Yet she could not find the strength within her to keep that anger, it was impossible. She wondered why, anger had come easily to her before. She'd been spoilt, yet not she was alone. So why now, in this time of despair did she not find the anger she so desired? Mentally she cursed at herself, she could not even find her voice to scream at him. He deserved it, by God he did. But she'd inherited the forgiveness of her father. She didn't want to forgive him, part of her even refused to close the gap that her better half longed to be closed. So why couldn't she hold onto that emotion? That anger. Was it love? Was that what made her unable to rage?
Eyes widened, in something of shock as the first tear dripped from his eyes. A pain stabbed at her chest, a pain like nothing she'd ever felt. What was wrong with him? Was he alright, or was he simply breaking down. She'd seen it happen before, but only once. His strong apendages wavered, she could see it, even from where she stood. He was falling to pieces, and there was nothing she could do about it, her eyes tried to calm him, though not a step did she take. And then ... he was gone.
He'd spun so quickly, departed with such swiftness that her mind took a moment to establish the change in the surroundings. Part of her heart broke off, thinking that this time he was leaving her for good. This was no fairytale, because fairytales never hurt, not like this. This ... was a nightmare, but she was not asleep, she was awake. And oh how she longed for sleep to claim her now. But no, she had burdened herself with the pain and loss, and now she must suffer it. Was that not what she'd come here for? To suffer? So why now, that it was happening worse than she thought, why now did she seek to dissapear? It wasn't different, she wouldn't die from it. It hurt, but she would live through it, she had to.
His absence was not long lived, soon after he ambled into the clearing again. Closer to her thing time, yet it seemed he would not venture closer than this. Thor was different, he was weaker now, she could see the strain it was just to keep his legs standing straight, she saw the self hatred at his weakness, all in the eyes that he kept away from her own. When he collapsed, she gasped. The sound was quiet, almost inaudible, indecision plauged her mind. She knew what she should do, but what she could do was a completly different thing. The force that made her decision, was when his tear stained eyes snapped with hers. Pain struck her heart, but this time she welcomed it ... it was pain for him. She didn't want to see him like this, not Thor, not her love.
The gap closed in what seemed like mere seconds, she was at his side, her legs folded and she lay beside him. Nuzzling his neck slightly, a comforting gesture.
"Why do you weep, Thor?"

Thor
The dark hued stallion lay 'pon the lithosphere, his long appendages folded awkwardly beneath him. He barely glanced up as Locket approached, but when she nuzzled him his skin shivered, he almost flinched. It wasn't her, it was him. This was so odd, so wierd. This never would have happened to him or her if he'd had any self control or any brains at all. It was dangerous and hurtful for her, right? And it wasn't helping him. But he knew, deep down, that he loved her and since she was still here, apparently she loved him too. It wasn't often that he felt he didn't know what to do and it especially wasn't often that he couldn't fake the confidence that he did know what to do. This was new to him and he really didn't know what to do because he didn't know what to do. (I know that's confusing, but it was fun to write. xD) Thor sighed and shook his head, looking down at the ground.
Locket's question came at him, but he didn't know what to say. He knew why, could he admit it? Did he even need to speak or could he just leave, run away, go jump off a cliff or something and leave the world that hurt him. Either there was something better following or he wouldn't know and there would be nothing. But it wouldn't matter if there was nothing because he would be nothing. Thor brushed off Locket's question for the moment and stood up. He felt stronger now, maybe the thinking had done him some good. He shook his head and stepped forward. He ambled across the way o'er to the cliff. He stopped at the very edge, dangerously close to simply losing his balance and falling.
For several long minutes Thor simply stared down, looking at the bottom of the ravine, the sharp rocks below. It would be a quick death, either painless or not very painful. He shifted his weight forward, remembering his earlier thoughts. Either there would be something better coming or nothing, but it wouldn't matter if there was nothing because he would be nothing so he wouldn't know if there was something or nothing or if he was better off or worse off. And hey, nobody here would miss him, nobody would care if he left, he doubted anybody would even notice he was gone or dead. And if they did, maybe they would be happy he was gone.
Thor started to step forward, off the cliff, but then caught the image of Locket in the corner of his eye. He'd forgotten about her. Would she miss him? Sure, she...loved...him, right? But maybe it was for the better, what if he hurt her later one and it would have been better if he had jumped off the cliff. No, love could not make up this decision, because he barely knew what love was and this whole love thing was way complicated. He felt he wanted the best for Locket, but didn't know what the best was. And it only further annoyed him. But then...wait...would he be considered a coward for giving into the harshness of life? Yeah, that's what he was doing, isn't it? Giving in, losing? No, he couldn't go like that, like a coward.
This was so stupid, that was so stupid, he was such a bastard. Who the hell was he and what the hell was he thinking? Thor turned and stared for a long time at Locket. After a couple minutes he began to walk forward, towards Locket, but stopped about ten, fifteen feet from her. He sighed and did not look at Locket, but at the ground next to her, or the tree in the distance, or the sky, but not at Locket. Not now. He spoke softly, his voice hesitant and raspy, remembering her earlier question.
"Because I do not know what to do. I don't even know who I am anymore. I don't even understand myself anymore. I don't even know why I think what I think or why I do what I do. "
